Apple's First iPhone 7 TV Ad Is Weird, Gloomy, and Kinda Scary

Apple gets gloomy for their first iPhone 7 TV ad, which kinda makes sense considering the aux cord is dying.

Sometimes you just gotta get dark AF to move some phones. Apple apparently received this word to the wise already, putting it on full display in their new 30-second ad for the iPhone 7. Scary forest imagery, an owl's eye, a deer, a boxer, that same owl turning around, and some ominous rain? This clip has it all and, if you're so inclined, would probably pair nicely with The Cure's entire discography on an endless loop.

To complete the ensemble, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be available in fresh jet black and matte black finishes. Upon the launch of the crowded-ass pre-order action last week, many bummed gloom enthusiasts were quickly met with the realization that copping a jet black iPhone 7 would most likely require a remarkably unfair amount of waiting.

Maybe the new iPhone's somber marketing strategy is inspired by Apple's decision to hit the aux cord with a sudden RIP, choosing instead to start bowing down to the Lightning gods full-time for the foreseeable future. Speaking at the company's keynote event Sept. 8, Apple CEO Tim Cook said the decision to off the aux cord was a decision based in "courage."

Death of the aux cord aside, Apple is once again riding high on the wave of excitement surrounding another hyped device release. Apple shares hit their highest level in 9 months Wednesday, with CNBCreporting the company saw a 4 percent jump. On Tuesday, Apple also dropped some major changes on iPhoners with the (briefly bricky) release of the iOS 10 update.
