A shooting Monday afternoon at a county courthouse in Michigan left at least 3 people dead, according to WZZM. An employee at the county prosecutor's office told local reporters that three people, the shooter and two court bailiffs, had been killed at the Berrien County Courthouse. Sheriff's deputy James Atterberry, who is a husband and father of five, and a civilian who has yet to be identified, were also injured. Michigan State Police have not yet confirmed any casualties.
Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder took to Twitter shortly after news of the shooting broke to confirm that local authorities had secured the area and started their investigation, though he did not reveal additional information:
The identities of the shooter and the alleged victims have not been released. However, according toWBND reporter Vahid Sadrzadeh, the shooter was reportedly on his way to jail when he "took a gun off a deputy and started opening fire." CNN is reporting that a "law enforcement officer" was shot and injured during the exchange. The officer, a deputy sheriff, is reportedly in "stable condition" along with the civilian at a local hospital.
