Yesterday, a rumor surfaced on the internet that Mexican drug kingpin Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán had escaped from prison for the third time. As it turned out (of course), the report was nothing more than a hoax. The Mexican government even took the rare step of offering proof that El Chapo was still in their custody by sharing a photo of the drug lord sitting at a table in one of their facilities.
So while for now El Chapo awaits to see if he will indeed be transferred to U.S. authorities to stand trial in America, let's take look at that shining moment when it seemed like he had once again secured his freedom, and the subsequent outpouring of indignation and bewilderment that spread across social media in the form of hilarious memes.
