North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un is known for taking things to extremes. For example, he once reportedly ordered a man to be killed for starving baby turtles. In another instance he allegedly ordered his head of military to be killed for falling asleep during a meeting. Kim Jong-un has now banned weddings and funerals, in addition to banning anyone from leaving or entering North Korea reportsThe Independent.

The bans have been set in place in North Korea's capital Pyongyang ahead of the May 6 Worker's Party of Korea Congress. According toThe Independent, the Worker's Party—led by Kim Jong-un—gathering will be the first in 36 years. At the last congress former North Korean leader Kim Jong-il, Kim Jong-un's father, was confirmed as the country's leader.

Via the Daily NK, with alleged sources in North Korea, The Independentreports travel has been banned across the capital and, because Kim Jong-un can't be too safe—that more inspections and property searches are being made.

South Korea Unification Ministry spokesman Cheong Joon-hee explained the temporary bans are to ensure there are no "mishaps" at the congress gathering reports The Independent. Kim Jong-un will declare the nation as a nuclear state at the congress party, reportsThe Independent, in addition to discussing North Korea's economics and military moving forward.

The congress party will reportedly also be when Kim Jong-un is officially crowned North Korea's leader, despite already being so.

The Worker's Party of Korea official newspaper wrote: "The [Democratic People’s Republic of Korea] proudly joined the ranks of advanced nuclear and space powers while demonstrating the might of the invincible politico-ideological, military and youth power and is now dashing ahead toward to a socialist economic power and highly civilised nation."
