The American unemployment rate is the lowest it's been in a while, but with millennials ages 18 to 29 still likely to be underemployed or unemployed, it might be time to start considering "alternative" career options.

When a Redditor asked how to land obscure jobs, responses proved that your "dream" job might be out there—you just haven't heard of it yet.

If working a traditional 9-to-5 after college is not in your cards, check out these five decent jobs off the beaten path:

If you think U.S. President Barack Obama is that eloquent on his own, think again.

Speech writers are responsible for helping many leaders seem articulate, composed, and capable.

Redditor Primuspilus explained:

"Worked for a politician when I got out of the military and wrote a lot of speeches for them. You don't need a university degree or anything like that—you just have to be able to write.

Now I clear $100K+ per annum writing speeches for the head of a civil service agency."

While some of these "obscure" jobs landed right in these Redditors' laps, don't hesitate to pursue an alternative career option. If you can think of a job that needs doing, you might be the person for the job. Sometimes, all you have to do is ask.
