When a 16 year old girl took a nude selfie for her boyfriend, she didn't ever think she'd end up being tried for two felony sex crimes...against herself.

It's no secret that hormonal teens with phones are sending photos they probably don't want there parents to see, but the Fayetteville, North Carolina girl might face prison time and be forced to be registered as a sex offender should she be convicted. Her warrant would make sure she's tried as both and adult perpetrator AND a victim.

The child in question is clearly not the only one of her peers sending graphic images, FayObserver who originally reported the story cites a Pew Research survey in which teens 17 and younger are sending over 28% of all sexually explicit photos of themselves.

According to psychologist Michelle Drouin also speaking to FayObserver, the laws must change for the times as "sexting" is now considered "second base" for modern teens. "One thing I definitely would say is that sexting has become so intertwined with budding sexuality that I think these are exactly the people who are going to be sending these pictures," she said.

Though the teen may face prison time, it's likely she probably won't face severe charges but be charged with "disseminating harmful material to minors".
