"Witcher 3" for Xbox 360, PS3 is Impossible, Says DeveloperCD Projekt Red

CD Project Red, the developer behind the hotly anticipated The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, wouldn't have been able to make the same game on last-generations consoles. CEO Marcin Lwinski says that, “It would have to be a different game – a small game, not an open-world game, or with terrible loading times, with scarifies in graphics.”

That means that while many games this year will be launching on both generations of consoles – Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 as well as Xbox One and PlayStation 4 – Witcher 3 is very much a next-gen game and won't make it to the older systems.

Witcher 3 is headed exclusively to Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC in 2014. However Lwinski squashed rumors that the PC only The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings will not be coming to PlayStation 3 despite rumors to the contrary.

"We definitely would have loved to, but The Witcher 2 on PC was so big that making it work on Xbox 360 took us a year," he said. "The Xbox 360 was a more powerful and easier-to-code-on platform than PS3, so that would have taken us another year or year-and-a-half."

Lwinski went on to say that the quality between the Xbox One and PS4 version of The Witcher 3 and its PC versions are “not huge” because the new consoles can be considered “actually brand new PCs.”

"So I think gamers on each platform will get an extremely good experience and they should be very satisfied with the quality," he said. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set to drop sometime in 2014. Stay tuned for further details.
