"The Last of Us: Left Behind" Release Date Confirmed; Your New Valentine (Video)

If you made big plans this year for Valentine's Day, like getting dressed up as Predator and proposing to your lucky other or sitting on the couch committing carbicide with a super-sized box of milk duds and some Red Bull, your plans are hereby canceled.

Developer Naughty Dog has confirmed that Left Behind, the story-driven downloadable content (DLC) for The Last of Us will drop on February 14 – Valentines Day – for $14.99.

As if anyone needs more emotional turmoil on Valentines Day now fans will be following the ill-fated adventures of Ellie and her friend Riley. Riley, of course, isn't featured in The Last of Us and with a title like Left Behind players can assume something super-happy happens in the end! Irony aside, get ready to cry yourself into a chocolate smudged pile as friendships are ripped apart by the post-apocalyptic future – just like last year's Valentine's Day.

Actress Ashley Johnson, the voice of Ellie, describes this new story as a change in tone from the main game. “You’ll definitely see a more playful side to Ellie and get to know her a bit better,” Johnson said. “It’s kind of like a post-pandemic version of two teenage girls hanging out,” she said. “There’s a bit of everything in there. You’re really getting a new sense of the environment. You’ll engage in combat that seems familiar from the original campaign, but there are some new touches and nuances, too.”

Just two girls having a great time in a mall. I'm sure nothing with go wrong. The Last of Us: Left Behind drops on Valentine's Day, February 14, for $14.99 exclusively on PlayStation 3.
