Make Your Own 1970s-ish Game Boy

Make Your Own 1970s-ish Game Boy

Ever wanted to make your own game console? Now you can. An enterprising company called Technology Will Save Us has crafted a DIY Gamer Kit that lets you create a 64 pixel system that looks like a Game Boy-type device you might find on Etsy.

The 40 part kit has everything you need, from a d-pad to tools to make your own games. Even at this lo-fi baseline it’s complicated stuff for the uninitiated, but the kit is designed to help those interested learn about how exactly basic hardware (and yeah, software too) are created from scratch, which includes pre-loaded basic games like Snake that you can manipulate the code for, just to get a feel for program modding, for a start.

$80 nabs you the kit, so if you’re into this sort of thing, get on it.
