Miyamoto Says Wii U's HD Dev Costs Are Higher Than Expected

If you’re wondering where all the big first-party Nintendo games are for the Wii U, Shigeru Miyamoto has an explanation for the delays: Wii U games cost more to make than Nintendo anticipated.

Speaking with Games Industry International, Nintendo’s senior managing director and longtime creative head said aside from the amount of people needed for HD game development, it’s been the final processing phases that has thrown the company for a loop.

“The overall software development took more time than originally anticipated just as we tried to polish the software at the completion phase of development,” Miyamoto said.

What will that mean for new Metroid, Zelda and Mario? Time will tell.
