Audiences of journalists and fans at press events were forced to wear 3D glasses during events and presentations. Kiosks in retail stores lured consumers in with comfortable couches and shiny 3D demonstrations. But none of that was enough to draw us in, because 3D was never presented in a way that made it feel like an integral part of the experience.
How is today's 3D different from the cheesy effects that have existed in novelty movies theatres for decades? Even if you know the answer, the fact is most people don't. Those pushing 3D on the masses totally failed to make it "pop."
