Rumors of a new "super slim" PS3 system have been floating around since the FCC accidentally revealed it in July. We were sort of expecting Sony to reveal the smaller PlayStation 3 at Gamescom, but the German convention came and went with no mention of it.
But Sony finally unveiled the new PS3 at the Tokyo Game Show overnight, and we've got the details right here:
"The iconic PlayStation 3, first brought to us in 2007, is reinvented for the next wave of innovation and creativity," reads a statement sent to us by Sony today. "The PS3 has had a makeover—reduced in size yet again, the contours are slicker, the shape more seductive. But what the console now lacks in size, it makes up for in entertainment offerings across film, catch up TV services, music and of course, video gaming that everyone can enjoy."
There's a 250GB version for $269 launching Sept. 28 with Uncharted 3, and a 500GB option coming Oct. 30 for $299. That one will come standalone or bundled with Assassin's Creed 3, according to USA Today. There's also a "family-friendly" 12GB option coming Oct. 12.
