Sega to Shut Down Offices Across Europe and Australia Next Month

Sega announced today that they plan to shut down their offices in France, Germany, Spain, Australia and Benelux by July 1st.

"The company will benefit from a clear focus and realigned strategy for our digital business and packaged goods and we are confident that this will lead to a successful future," Sega Europe COO Jurgen Post said as part of a prepared statement.

The decision is a major component of the publisher's plan to narrow their focus to smaller, digitally distributed titles, anchored by a few key AAA franchises - Aliens, Total War, Football Manager, and, of course, Sonic. The restructuring has led to massive layoffs, game delays, and project cancellations since the beginning of 2012.

Koch Media will support Sega's distribution efforts in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, and Spain. Distribution in Australia and Benelux will be handled by Level03 Distribution and 5 Star Games.
