Harmonix is Working on Three or More Games That Aren't "Dance Central" or "Rock Band"

Right now, as far as we know, Harmonix has two games in the works: Rock Band Blitz and Dance Central 3. As it turns out, the things we know about barely scratches the surface of what's going on in the depths of the music game-maker's offices.

Harmonix' director of communications and brand management John Drake wishes he could talk about all the things Harmonix is doing right now. He wants to talk about them so much, but he can't, so he settled with revealing that the studio is making a few games that the public knows nothing about during the latest Harmonix Podcast.

According to Drake, Harmonix is working on no fewer than three unannounced "AAA IPs"  right at this moment, none of which have anything to do with the studio's primary franchises Rock Band and Dance Central. "Dance Central and Rock Band are kind of our big established IPs. And man oh man are we working on multiple – like, more than two – new triple A IPs, right now that we can't talk about at all," said Drake.

He clarifies later in the podcast that the game's he's think of aren't remakes or re-releases of any Harmonix property, including older cult-classics Frequency and Amplitude.

Drake went on to say some of Harmonix' new games are very different from the types of games the studio has been making for years: "Some of them are music games, some of them are not full-on rhythm action games. Some of them are brand new things that we created from our gut and brains here at Harmonix. Some are things that we're expanding the universe of."

Drake was careful not to get into the nitty gritty about what any of these games are, so we're just going to have and wait and see. The Harmonix frontman did say he's hoping that he'll be able to talk about them more next year.

You know what else we're supposedly going to hear a lot about next year? Next-gen consoles. I'll leave it to you to connect the last couple of dots.
