The funny thing about rose tinted glasses is that they obstruct your view of what’s right in front of you. There are those who cling to the notion that classic games are almost always better than modern releases, and in some cases they can be right.
Unfortunately though, many of the critically-acclaimed greats that get called out as ultimate examples of gaming perfection just don’t hold up over time. It can be hard letting go, especially when it comes to games that defined your childhood, but it’s time to face the facts and realize that the following 10 games just don’t hold up in a modern gaming context.

Whaaaat? Eternal Darkness? I actually still play it from time to time. Sure, it isn't scary, but it never really was. It's the story that I always love. It was handled in a very mature manner. It's still great.

Dunno what you guys are talking about; I still know plenty of people who play Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. Besides COD I probably play those more than any other FPS still. As for Resident Evil I can still pick up and play those games easily. I mean what do you expect when you play 15 year old games???
Words of Reason December 13th, 2011 at 01:12 AM
This is straight blasphemy. Goldeneye remains the greatest Bond game and Starfox is classic. Justin Amirkhani should be fired. This would be like saying most outdated Golden Age hip-hop artists and listing Tribe. Respect the classics,

Absolutely retarded. I think he wrote this article with the intention of sounding like a spoiled dumbass. Yes, if you play 20-15 even 10 year old games, they are not going to compare. I'd like to see his idea of video games that have stood the test of time.

Ridiculous. What do you expect? Older consoles can't compete with new ones. I don't care if a game's graphics are good or not. Graphics do not make a game. Sure, control is a big issue though, I agree with you.

I played the shit out of Kid Icarus. It's number 3 on my NES alltime great list after Mario and Zelda.

dumbass author. If you're going to compare 15+ yo games, why no Pong? Or MUDS? Such a ridiculous, nonsensical list. TLDR. Author whine: Newer tech is somehow better than old tech. Right?

I think you guys are missing the point. The whole premise of the piece is that given current design and technology, these games aren't as fun in a modern context. Almost all of these games were great in their time, but I wouldn't want to play them now when I could be playing something newer.
