The Hit Stick was cool, and the Playmaker controls for presnap reads were nice. The ability to guide your lead blockers made the running game more enjoyable, and this year’s new camera angles and broadcast-style presentation can’t hurt either.
But make no mistake: EA Sports’ Madden franchise has always been about the players. From superstar Adrian Peterson to little-known punter Zoltan Mesko, Madden devs have always poured loads of time and energy into getting the superstars right, and after 23 years in the biz, it’s paid off in a serious way. Fans clamor to know the top-rated guys each year, and even the players themselves beg to find out their ratings.
With that in mind, Complex would like to bring you our 50 favorite players in the history of the franchise. (And no, folks, Madden 12 coverboy Peyton Hillis didn’t make our list.)

Missing early to mid-nineties Sega Genesis Randall Cunningham. Other than that, a great list!

Yawn for #1. Anyone playing with Vick or beaten by Vick is just a lousy Madden player. Besides Sanders, Moss in '04 was pretty good, but lets be honest, Tim Dwight as the fourth wide out is the most dominant Madden player of all time. Its not even close.

I know ppl might not think it but Matt Jones for Jacksonville on madden 2007 was dominant. Although not good in real life, on the game he was tall and fast making him virtually unstoppable on the deep passes

THe 07 Jaguars were scary. Reggie Williams, Ernest Wilford, Matt Jones, and Marcedes Lewis at TE. Worlds largest recieving corp not to mention the largest D-Line and 6'1 Rashean Mathis at corner; besides MOJO that team was colossal.

I just want to say that Deon Sanders is probably the most dominant defensive player in Madden history. You could not throw to that side of the field, nor run. Oh, and I wouldn't recommend kicking the ball to him during punt of kickoff returns, he is a treat to go all the way every time.

Rich Gannon didn't lead the Raiders to the 2002 Super Bowl Title. The 2002 Super Bowl (played in 2003) was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers BEATING the Oakland Raiders. Get your facts straight.

Led them to the Super Bowl, not for the win.

Randy Moss should have been number two. He was literally unstoppable on the last-gen versions, Antonio Gates should've been top 5 as well.

Deion should be in the top five.

All bow down to Tecmo Bowl Bo Jackson
Matt August 31st, 2011 at 12:04 PM
LOL...that goes without saying. Most dominant player in any game, ever...

Steve Smith (the Panthers one) was pretty awesome in Madden '10. You could repeatedly run Deangelo Williams or Jonathan Stewart and then run a playaction bomb to Smith and it was pretty much a guaranteed touchdown.

Why are the majority of players from 2010 and 2011? There are plenty of guys with 99 ratings from the Madden games of the 1990s. Just pick any cornerback with a 99 speed rating and it's a sack on every play for example.
