The Last Express (PC, 1997)

Yes, yet another point-and-click game makes this list, and with good reason: The Last Express is one of the few games to complete its storyline in (nearly) real time, which meant that production costs for the game skyrocketed accordingly. That wasn't exactly a formula for success back when the gaming public and the industry in general was still tiny compared to what it is today. Despite its eventual failure, the game's ambition garnered a cult following over the years for its unique take on the genre and the open-ended nature of the narrative.
