Console Asylum: It's The New PSP, But Don't Call It A PSP
Earlier today in Tokyo, the PlayStation Meeting 2011 was held--and, as expected, they revealed some information about their new handheld gaming device.  But no, it's not a PSP2. We’ll post more information later about what they're calling the Next Generation Portable (NGP), but for now enjoy the raining balls featured in this concept trailer. [Destructoid]

It looks like gamers may have to wait until September to flail around with oversized glowsticks in Star Wars: The Old Republic.  While no formal announcement has been made, MCV claims that the information comes from a development source at Bioware. SWTOR was expected to be released this spring, so that must explain why when we read this we felt a great disturbance in the Force. Y'know, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced. [MCV]

It’s the classic debate: guy wants to play games, wife/girlfriend is disgruntled and wants to control his time.  And a couple of weeks ago, an online poll allowed readers to vote for who's right.  The husband plays World of Warcraft 3-4 hours a night; the wife says he has a job and spends all weekend with her, but feels he shouldn’t play longer than an hour a day. Find out for yourself who won the Internet. Our guess is neither. [Gamers Mint]

Rift (of "we’re not on Azeroth anymore" fame) is due out in just over a month, and a new CGI trailer has been released previewing a bit about the world of Telara. Players choose one of two factions:  The Guardians and The Defiant.  The Guardians are do-gooders and are the chosen favorites of the gods.  The Defiant rely on their own strength and not some higher power.  But when the rifts open up, tentacles pour out of the sky, so it’s not going to matter which side you’re on. You’re all in deep shit. While selling 30,000 digital copies of a game on its release day may be small potatos for giants like Activision or EA, but for a small Swedish studio Arrowhead Game Studios, it far exceeded their expectations. Magicka is an action-adventure game based on Norse mythology and features an intricate spell system where players combine elements in order to wield magic against their foes.  Four-player co-op is available in all gaming modes and so far reviews of the game have been very positive.  Arrowhead's CEO is ecstatic, saying, “We would have been happy if a couple of thousand people bought the game." Nice to see a win for the little guys. [Gamasutra]
