Anonymous has been hacking into US government computers for over a year, according to a recent FBI memo cited by Reuters.

The hacktivist collective has been stealing government data using a vulnerability in Adobe’s ColdFusion development software. The intrusions began in December 2012 and continued until as recently as last month, with the US Army, the Department of Energy, and the Department of Health and Human Services all listed as having had their machines targeted. The FBI described the hacks as "a widespread problem that should be addressed.”

In an email sent to staff on Oct. 11 by the Energy Secretary’s chief of staff, personal information about more than 100,000 Department of Energy employees and family members was accessed. Anonymous also stole data about more than 2,000 bank accounts. Yikes.
