Mapquesting Directions to Your Friend's House
Between the Google Maps of today and the actual maps of the past, there was MapQuest. Your parents agreed to drive you to that cool post-Prom party on the other side of town, as long as your looked up the directions. It was time to boot up Internet Explorer, print out some pages, and highlight the path for your parents to better find the way. The red star marked the end of the path to the promised land.
MapQuest might not have looked pretty, but we also don't remember MapQuest directing us into the middle of the ocean by accident, as Apple and Google Maps have done more than once in recent years.
