The 50 Greatest Moments in Apple History

14. Steve Jobs Returns to Apple After Surgery

Year: 2009

After battling pancreatic cancer for the better part of a decade, Apple's co-founder and CEO stepped out of the public eye after undergoing a liver transplant at a hospital in Tennessee. On Wednesday, September 9, Jobs reemerged at an Apple news conference to introduce new iPod Nanos and a new version of iTunes. He looked frail, but told the audience that he felt great though he may need to "gain about 30 pounds." Unfortunately, two years later, Jobs would step down as CEO of Apple due to complications from cancer. Six weeks later he would pass away at his Palo Alto, Calif. home.
