12. iTunes Music Store Launches

With the music industry taking a nosedive, the iTunes Store, then called the iTunes Music Store, gave a new generation of consumers who weren't buying CDs an easy way to legally purchase music. Music labels balked at having its songs sold for pennies, but they eventually came around when they saw the value in a music store tied so heavily to the most popular digital music player.
