3D printers are the way of the future, and by the year 2016, they could be a heck of a lot cheaper to buy. According to a Gartner report cited by TechCrunch, the price of 3D printers could drop well below the $2,000 mark.

That means everyone from designers to average consumers will find a use for the device, and small businesses who previously did not see a need for 3D printing finally will.

Aside from cost and mainstream adoption, another concern with 3D printing is figuring out where to sell the printers. For the time being, it's all right to sell them online, but as TechCrunch points out, eventually consumers will demand a "retail marketplace where designers can sell professional level designs rather than just giving them away on Thingiverse."
