Scientists have developed sticker-thin devices that individuals can wear to communicate with machines.
The Neural Interaction Lab at the University of California, San Diego, headed by electrical engineer Todd Coleman, is developing brain-machine interfaces (BMI) that pick up electrical signals and transmit them to distant objects (say, your television remote or microwave).
Each device, less than 100 microns thick, carries solar cells, temperature sensors, strain gauges and other integral parts that detect neural signals. The adhesive then turns your thought into action.
