Nearly Named: Jerry and David's Guide to the World Wide Web

While getting their masters in electrical engineering at Stanford University, Jerry Yang and David Filo created a directory of websites which they called Jerry and David's Guide to the World Wide Web. When the site became to become popular, the two remanned it Yahoo! Yang and Filo said they got the name from Guilliver's Travels, but said it could also stand for "Yet Another Hierarchal Officious Oracle." Whatever the meaning, we're glad they changed it.
