Nearly Named: Cadabra
We all know the story: Jeff Bezos left a cushy Wall Street job in the '90s to cash in on the Internet gold rush. He founded a company that initially sold books online. but later expanded to sell everything anyone could possibly need. To aptly describe the torrential flow goods, the company was christened Amazon, after the longest river in the world. However, before that seemingly perfect name was chosen, Bezos's fledgling site was named Cadabra.com. Yes, like a la cadabra. Co-workers at the new start-up kept mistaking the name for "cadaver" and suggested that it be changed.
