Will the Next iPad Mini Have a Retina Display?

The only knock to Apple's iPad Mini was the fact that beneath its charming aluminum case were the internals of an iPad 2. All of which meant the screen wasn't the same beautiful Retina Display used in the bigger iPad. We didn't mind trade off, and apparently neither did the three million people who bought one during opening weekend. However, a new report from Digitimes says that's all going to change with the release of the next model:

Apple's next-generation iPad mini will focus mostly on enhancing the device’s display resolution, according to Taiwan-based backlighting industry sources.

The sources have yet to specify whether the device will use Apple’s Retina Display technology to enhanced resolution, but market observers said it is highly likely based on the development of past Apple products such as the iPhone and 9.7-inch iPad series.

As MacRumors notes, the size of the iPad Mini may prevent Apple from outfitting it with a Retina Display. When Apple released the third-gen iPad with a Retina Display it was noticeably heavier and thicker than the iPad 2. Would Apple be willing to do the same to its most portable tablet?
