8. Google Pulls Nexus Q from Google Play

Date: 10/29/2012

2012 was the year Google truly positioned itself as a hardware company. At a July press conference the Internet giant introduced a its Nexus line of devices which included the new Nexus 4 smartphone, the Nexus 10 tablet, and the Nexus Q. Priced at $299, the Q was the oddest product of the bunch. Spherical, made in America, and sporting the same insides at the Nexus 4, it was meant to be a set-top box that allowed people to stream media from their Android devices and from the Google Play store. So, essentially, a competitor to Apple's $99 AppleTV. After the initial reviews rated the device less than stellar, Google decided to pull the Q from the Google Play store.
