6. GoDaddy Service Outage
Unlike the time when founder Bob Parsons shot an elephant in Zimbabwe and shared the footage on the Internet, the big GoDaddy fail of 2012 was an operational mishap. On Monday, September 10, millions of GoDaddy customers logged on to their computers to find that their sites were down. Later in the week a person on Twitter claiming to be apart of the hacker collective Anonymous took credit for the takedown, saying that he and his people had shut down the service using a DDoS attack. While the company never fully explained what happened, a week after the attack, CEO Scott Wagner sent an email to all GoDaddy customers apologizing for the loss of service and told them that it was due to "a series of internal network events that corrupted router data tables." All of which translates to "fail."
