The Art of Immersion: How the Digital Generation Is Remaking Hollywood, Madison Avenue, and the Way We Tell Stories

The Art of Immersion: How the Digital Generation Is Remaking Hollywood, Madison Avenue, and the Way We Tell Stories

Author: Frank Rose
Publishing Date: March 5 (Paperback release)

Frank Rose, a contributing editor at Wired, explores how the Internet has transformed narrative and the new ways storytelling will evolve as technology continues to expand. "I realized there were a lot of people in Hollywood, writers in particular, who had gone from writing for television to writing for video games then back again to television or, in this case, for the Web," Rose said in a 2011 interview. "And their experience writing for video games made them want to create a new kind of hybrid form that would enable people to interact with the story in a way that gamers do. So putting all these things together, I began to think there was something much bigger going on." Rose, too, takes it further. We are no longer just consumers of media, he admits, but, with the rise of YouTube, Twitter, and blogs, we have become willing participants. How we tell stories on and offline will never be the same.
