College Girl Steals Identity Then Steals Passwords

College Girl Steals Identity Then Steals Passwords

College: University of Delaware

Date: July 2002

Danielle Insler isn’t what you would consider the typical hacker. Instead of developing a virus or utilizing programming skills to break into her university's computer system and change her failing grades, she did what many of us would have never thought to do: impersonate our professors via telephone to obtain faculty passwords. Clever. When that didn't work, the 22-year-old allegedly guessed an instructor’s password and changed her evaluation mark. Insler was later caught and charged with identity theft, criminal impersonation, and a host of other fraud-related crimes.
