Chinese Hackers Shut Down Naval War College's Computer System
College: Naval War College
Date: Nov. 15, 2006
Chinese cyber-terrorists infiltrated the Navy’s learning institution website and computer system, making security officials shut down e-mail accounts and the school’s computer networking projects for two weeks. Two days later, U.S. Strategic Command had to raise the security alert level on the Pentagon’s 12,000 networks and 5 million computers to prevent any future viral threats. Former U.S. Cyber Security Czar Richard Clarke found it "very unusual" that the college's system had been offline for so long, while computer security specialist Alan Paller touched on the government’s shameful stance: “The depth of the penetration is more than anybody is even admitting…People are trying to hide this because they’re embarrassed.” Who's knows what the Chinese have on us right now.
