The 13 Craziest College Computer Hacks

The Keystroke Logger

College: Boston College

Date: July 9, 2004

Computer science major Douglas Boudreau covertly installed keystroke-monitoring software on over 100 BC campus computers and stole personal information from over 4,800 students, employees, and other staff members. Able to save and display keystrokes entered into a computer, the undetectable programs opened the door to access codes for campus buildings, social security numbers, and credit card info. Boudreau then rigged his campus ID, which was referred to as the “Eagle Card,” to make over $2,000 in fake purchases on campus facilities. The college's IT department reported him to the authorities and dude was charged with six counts of interception of wire communications, eight counts of unauthorized access to a computer system, and two counts of larceny totaled at $250.
