Amid a lot of other fanfare this Friday, Microsoft will release it's long anticipated SmartGlass app for Xbox. The free app will effectively turn your mobile device (SmartGlass will launch as a Windows Phone exclusive with iOS and Android apps coming next year) into a remote control for your Xbox. But more than simply allowing you to control movies, music and Internet browsing, the app will double as a secondary display for content playing across the big screen. For instance, if you're watching a movie on Xbox, SmartGlass can display supplementary content like character bios and cast and crew info.
