The all-new MacBook Pro w/ Retina Display is thinner and lighter than its non-retina counterpart, but at 15.4-inches, it isn't actually that much more portable. For those looking for something a little smaller, a la the MacBook Air, Apple is reportedly prepping a new version of the Pro Retina that will measure in at a svelte 13.3 inches. The smaller model would also be cheaper, narrowing the gap between it and the Air even further and possibly striking the best balance yet between power, portability and price.
According to NPD DisplaySearch analyst Richard Shim, Apple has already ordered the smaller Pro Retina displays from its manufacturing partners, including LG, Samsung and Sharp. Shim speculates that the new model could hit shelves as early as this fall.
