Blackmagic Unveils Camera With 2.5K Video For Under $3,000

Blackmagic's first camera looks to be an impressive piece of hardware by any definition. The video post-production company's new offering in the category is compact, shoots both stills and super hi-def video via a 2.5K sensor, has a massive LCD screen, a built-in SSD recorder (with Thunderbolt i/o) and, unlike current DSLRs, won't compress your video files, thereby draining them of fine detail.

The Cinema Camera is also compatible with Canon's EF lenses and Zeiss's ZE lenses, meaning there's a vast, built-in stock of shooting options that will be available at launch. Perhaps most impressive about the shooter, however, is it's price tag. At $2,995, it's extremely competitive with others in its category that lack many of its features, such as the Canon 5D Mark II ($2,199) and Mark III ($3,499).

The Cinema Camera from Blackmagic Design launches this July.
