FBI Facing Lawsuit For Megaupload Seizure

Kim Dotcom and Megaupload don’t stand a chance against the government when legal proceedings get underway, but ultimately, the FBI’s victory might be bittersweet. The unfortunately titled Pirate Parties International is rounding up all of the users who used the file-hosting service legitimately and lost data as a result of its shutdown for a looming lawsuit against the Feds.

“The widespread damage caused by the sudden closure of Megaupload is unjustified and completely disproportionate to the aim intended,” PPI wrote in a press release.

In the face of the FBI’s dozens of search & seizure warrants against MU, legit users might struggle to mount a big class-action case. Not to mention, PPI’s name certainly won’t help them any. Though, the general population’s reliance upon services such as MU and Dropbox could be enough to get PPI a respectable settlement.

At the very least, it's a clever means of protest.
