This past year was an unpredictable one for smartphones. Google captured a majority of the mobile marketshare with its Android platform. Apple proved it didn't need the iPhone 5 to generate record-breaking sales. Microsoft revamped its Windows Phone 7 platform for the better. BlackBerry somehow stayed in business even after suffering a near 70 percent profit drop. Handset manufacturers like HTC, Motorola, and Samsung blessed us with new phones on what seemed like a bi-weekly basis. And we witnessed the evolution of mobile computing in the form of dual-core processing, LTE/4G service, Near-Field Communication technology, mobile cloud services, and voice-recognition software.
That said, it's no easy chore narrowing down a selection of the year's hottest smartphones, especially when 50 percent of the best stuff was rushed into stores within the last four months. Nevertheless, we managed to tackle nearly every major mobile release and ranked the industry's most elite and distinguished handsets of this year. ARE YOU SERIOUS!?!?!?!? WOW This is the stupidest list ever Iphone doesn't even support flash so the internet on your phone doesn't look like the Internet on your PC, droids looks just like a home computer, you have to go through Itunes for everything, on a droid you can download music directly to the phone with no problems............ Ya know what Complex you guys are a bunch of trendy assholes who sellout to the highest bidder instead of giving your readers real info. Even the country has stopped buying them check the Iphone's purchase numbers and how far they have dropped.

The Internet isn't even of PC quality on an Android or Windows phone either you clown. Apparently you didn't keep tabs on the Adobe Flash diaster with the PlayBook or else you would of realized that Apple's decision to do without it was the best way to go for a mobile device. As far as the list, Sensation 4G was the best phone, and I'm pretty surprised you guys left off the Xperia Play.

Only one BlackBerry model? No surprise there. Seriously? A Virgin Mobile Android phone makes the cut? Gotta read up on that one. Top 5 should have played out as follows: 1) Atrix 4G 2) iPhone 4S 3) Droid RAZR 4) Galaxy S II 5) Galaxy Nexus

iPhone is one piece of shit, limited device in every possible way, limited in data transferring, in browsing and in phone accessing. galaxy s2 should be on top and Xperia Arc S comes next.

Wow, i would like to know how much you got paid from Apple to write this Bulls#@t My God, did you even put in consideration the Specs of these Smartphones for this stupid list, or even the reviews from respected websites? I don't think so........

EVO Shift was 2010 Where is the EVO 3D? iPhone is really smart phone for dummies All iPhones look the same, All Androids look different due to the huge amount of customization. iPhone has little to no customization. Can't sideload apps without jailbreaking and you have to add music through itunes. Want to be locked down, get an iPhone. Want to make your own choices get Android.

Lol what a bogus list. iPhone 4s number one? It was a big disappointment how can it be number one? The Galaxy SII is the best of 2011.
