See How Much The iPhone's Camera Has Improved Over Time

Since it debuted four years ago, Apple has made some wild improvements to the iPhone's camera. Beginning with last year's iPhone 4, the smartphone's rear shooter has come to be lauded for the industry-leading, point-and-shoot-like images it produces. And now, with the new 4S, the iPhone's camera is even more drastically improved, with all new optics, better low-light performance thanks to an impressive f2.4 aperture length and higher resolution 8 megapixel photos.

The above series of photos, shot by Lisa Bettany for Camera+ and strung together by PetaPixel, demonstrate just how far the iPhone's camera has come. The same image was shot using the camera on each iPhone to date.

At this rate, it won't be long before most consumers simply leave their dedicated cameras at home.
