"Avatar" and "The Dark Knight" Most Pirated Movies Ever

The highest grossing film of all-time with a mind-numbing $2.8 billion worldwide take, Avatar probably would’ve crossed the $3 billion-mark had it not also been the most pirated movie of all-time, with over 21 million downloads.

Torrent site TorrentFreak issued a list of the most illegally downloaded films, with The Dark Knight coming in second with 19 million. The rest of the top-ten features veritable guy movies (The Hangover, The Departed) and crass franchise flicks (Transformers, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End), most of which made hundreds of millions at the box office and weren’t too hurt by the downloads. However, superhero comedy Kick-Ass, which didn’t turn a significant profit stateside, was seventh on the list with 15 million downloads.
