Amazon Might Be Launching A Netflix-Style Digital Library

According to the Wall Street Journal—supposedly one of the more reputable newspapers left in this world despite its ownership by the one and only Rupert Murdoch—Amazon is in negotiations with book publishers for a Netflix-like subscription service that will beam books to your Kindle or computer (still unclear) for a yearly fee. In essence, users will have a library at their fingertips, which now means that since all of the big retailers are already gone (Borders) or on their way out (Barnes & Noble), libraries, too, are under threat. Perhaps that’s why at least here in the States, folks can watch porn openly on library computers—people need to be coming back somehow (no pun intended).

Details are scant about the service, but word is the “library” will mainly offer older books and enact monthly limits on free check-outs. Stay tuned.
