Nerd Alert! Facebook Looks To Drink Foursquare's Milkshake with "Places"

Over the past couple months Facebook has been plotting to encroach on other social networks' territory. Today one of them came to fruition as Facebook launched its location-based service, Places. Like Foursquare, users will be able to visit a location, alert their friends that they're there by checking in on their phone, and even holler at other friends that are nearby. We've seen Google attempt this very same service with middling results, but something tells us this is going to fare much better. But who knows, maybe the Foursquare faithful will stick to their guns. [NY Times]
