Ready For An Upgrade? BlackBerry Announces New Bold and Pearl 3G

Looking for a new BlackBerry? This post is for you. Today, RIM announced two new BlackBerry models: the Bold 9650 and the Pearl 9100 series, also known as the Pearl 3G. While the Bold upgrade is more of a spit shine, the Pearl is a full makeover. Bringing all the new BlackBerry features to one of the world's smallest smartphones. But are they worth the upgrade? Check out our break down below to find out...

BlackBerry Pearl 9100 3G
• It's a little smaller and thinner than the original BlackBerry Pearl, measuring 108mm x 50mm x 13.5mm and tipping the scaled at 3.3 oz. But you still get a 360x400 display.
• The Pearl finally gets the cool optical touch pad. No more roller ball.
• There are two models with two different keyboards: The 9100 and the 9105. The 9100 (pictured above) has a BlackBerry SureType keyboard which, in our opinion, is easier to type with. The 9105 has a traditional T9 phone keyboard, which BlackBerry says is actually SurePress, for those who aren't ready to make the smartphone jump.
• You get all the WiFi connections: b/g/n. This is the only BlackBerry that runs the newest WiFi standard, 802.11n. As well as GPS that works along side BlackBerry Maps.
microSDHC can support up to 32GB of storage.
• It runs the awesome BlackBerry OS 5.0 (if you haven't used the new BB OS yet, it makes the old version look archaic) which is powered by a more powerful processor to the tune of 624MHz.
Complex Says: The BlackBerry Pearl is one of the smallest full featured smartphones on the market. We've been waiting for RIM to update the line for a while and they've finally come through with a package that is pretty damn on point. They put everything dope about BlackBerry's into one of the smallest, sleekest and coolest bodies on the market.

BlackBerry Bold 9650
• Ready for the World. The 9650 supports every network type you would need: EV-DO Rev. A networks in North America, as well as UMTS/HSPA (2100Mhz) and quad-band EDGE/GPRS/GSM networks abroad. You'll be covered everywhere.
• Runs the BlackBerry OS 5.0.
• Comes with a microSDHC slot that, like the Pearl, can support up to 32 GB. To start you off, they threw in a 2GB card.
• Full HTML Browser
3.2 MP camera with with flash, variable zoom, image stabilization, autofocus and video recording.
• A great display. The Bold sports a 2.44" screen with 480 x 360 resolution at 245 ppi.
Complex Says: While the Bold upgrade isn't as dramatic as the Pearl, it does reinforce the Bold model line as one the best in the market. If you haven't made the jump to the new line of Bolds (with the optical trackpad and new OS) this is the time to do it. It's a faster. You get access to better apps, BlackBerry's Media Sync so you can upload music from iTunes or Windows Media Player and you get a better browser. It's just an overall better experience.
