It's a boy for CoverGirl! For the first time ever in CoverGirl’s 58-year history, a boy has been chosen as the face of the cosmetics brand. Get ready to see CoverBoy James Charles everywhere.

Current CoverGirl ambassador Katy Perry broke the news that Charles was the first CoverBoy on her Instagram, sharing a photo of the two. Charles is a 17-year-old makeup artist who a year ago started trying makeup on himself. Since then, he has gone on to create fabulous looks while building his following, currently 448,000 strong on Instagram. Charles also has a YouTube channel with 70,000 subscribers.

In an Instagram post, Charles said he was "honored" to work with CoverGirl and that he hopes people see anyone can wear makeup. "I am so beyond excited and overwhelmed and happy and astonished and of course, SHOOK, to announce that I am the newest face of @covergirl," wrote Charles. "First ever male ambassador for the brand and I am so honored and excited to be working with such an iconic brand. I started my Instagram one year ago to inspire others and as an artistic outlet to challenge myself creatively. I truly hope that this shows that anyone and everyone can wear makeup and can do anything if you work hard."

Charles will be appearing in a CoverGirl TV commercial promoting CoverGirl's new mascara "So Lashy."

CoverGirl released a statement about choosing Charles: "[CoverGirls] are role models and boundary-breakers, fearlessly expressing themselves, standing up for what they believe, and redefining what it means to be beautiful... James Charles is no exception. One year ago, he boldly chose to launch his Instagram to the world, using transformative, dynamic makeup looks to showcase the many facets of his personality, serving as an inspiration to anyone who might have been afraid to do the same."
