NEWGEN MEN has been a key instrument in raising the profile of British menswear designers since 2009. The programme offers sponsorship to emerging designers and in the past the scheme has supported the likes of J.W Anderson, Lou Dalton and Sibling with recent graduates being talents such as Agi & Sam, Astrid Andersen and Nasir Mazhar. The opportunity gives all chosen designers a chance to improve their brand and business with all recipients gaining financial support and mentoring; allowing them to build their businesses commercially and help them to develop relationships with key press and buyers.
The British Fashion Council have announced the ten emerging menswear talents who will receive NEWGEN MEN support, sponsored by TOPMAN, to showcase their Spring/Summer 2017 collections at London Collections: Men in June. Chosen designers this season who are continuing to receive support are Bobby Abley, Cottweiler, Craig Green, Liam Hodges and Diego Vanassibara, all of which are to host a catwalk. Alex Mullins is to host a salon show and finally Pieter who will present his collection via a presentation.
In addition to the existing seven, three new designers have been introduced to the support scheme for the first time. Recent Central Saint Martins graduate Kiko Kostadinov, who has gained his notoriety through his ongoing collaborations and involvement with Stüssy is joined by Phoebe English whose menswear brand is now in its third season and MAN alumni and Central Saint Martins graduate, Grace Wales Bonner, lauded for her exploration in to creating luxury through a hybrid of European and African approaches.
Jason Griffiths, Marketing Director of TOPMAN said "It is fantastic to be welcoming new designers to the NEWGEN MEN fold for June, Grace Wales Bonner, Kiko Kostandinov and Phoebe English — I'm sure all eyes will be on these bright news stars as they unveil their inaugural NEWGEN MEN collections."
