In the run up to Air Max Day (March 26), various outlets from music, fashion and sport have been showing their love and appreciation for one of Nike's most iconic staples, and now influential streetwear collective, Wavey Garms, are doing their bit too.

As their contribution to the celebrations, Wavey Garms have explored the idea of how the Air Max was embraced and adapted by London's youth culture over its 29 years. The photo project is inspired by the numerous ways Britain's youth tribes were customising their looks circa 1995 to 2006, and the intricate detail that went into styling their outfits. Whether rocking unique patterns on your laces, Nike studs blinging in your ear or getting the swoosh shaved on the back of your head, all that mattered was reppin' and expressing and standing out from the crowd.
