I know over the years you and I have talked a lot about coaches jackets. Let’s take a little time to talk about some other great casual, utilitarian jackets like this one from Phigvel. Inspired by U.S. Marine Corps jackets adopted in 1942 that feature the signature cotton herringbone twill. HBT jackets are meant to be worn every day, washed a lot and just generally mistreated. Once they’re broken-in and soft, they make a perfect layering piece. Wear this buttoned all the way up underneath your brand new expensive wool topcoat. Make sure to keep a lighter or your phone in one of the patch pockets so when you’re at the bar you have to brush your topcoat to the side to get at the pockets. That casual little move brings attention to your expensive, albeit nondescript, middle layer.
