If you’ve ever doubted the goodness of humanity, this story will prove it truly exists.

According to an article published by Yahoo News, an 83-year-old Peruvian homeless man had been wandering the streets of his village for quite some time—going without a bath or a change of clothes for several years; however, earlier this month, the members of the Peregrin Evangelical Church in Ferreñafe, Peru, decided to come together to give him a much-needed makeover. And it ultimately changed saved his life.

The man, named Don Luciano Chumán, was given a shower, a fresh shave, a haircut, and a set of clean clothes. That alone made a huge impact, but the community didn’t stop there.

Chumán was also given medical treatment, a national ID card, and some cash to get him back on his feet. The members of the church also contacted social services, which agreed to continually provide the man with food.

“It’s an act of humanity that sets an example to us all,” the city’s mayor, Jacinto Muro Tavara, told Yahoo. “I applaud the local community’s initiative in carrying out this act of solidarity.”
