We all know who he is. We've all seen him in street style photos from fashion weeks around the world. His name is synonymous with style. And yet, how much do we really know about Nick Wooster? Which is why Hypebeast met up with the man himself.

Essentially, Nick gets to do whatever the fuck he wants. He is the modern dabbler, sticking his hands in the many different cookie jars of fashion. As he often calls himself, he is the definition of a "free agent." But it's not like he just became that dude overnight. Nick's logged time at Calvin Klein, Barneys and Bergdorf Goodman, was the design director at Polo Ralph Lauren for a time and even founded his own consultancy firm. His name has been on projects with Thom Browne, United Arrows, Greats, Lardini and others. You may remember that he even spent time at J.C.Penney when the store was trying to revive its menswear selection. He says that his career is the new career model—short stints at places are no longer a negative signal on one's resume. The cycle of consumption doesn't apply just to the clothes within fashion, but how the industry's machine actually works, it seems.

There's no one better and nicer than Nick, so it's fitting he's the public face of breaking the mold. Maybe most interesting, he isn't an #influencer in the way that we've become used to, but there's absolutely no doubt he's influential. If you take anything home from this it's that when asked, "Who is Nick Wooster?" the proper response is, "The real fucking deal."
