Karl Lagerfeld has a history of dropping such flagrant quotes it can be hard to differentiate what he said from a serial killer's quotes. That is especially true when pressed about his controversial view on furs, a material he continues to use for entire fashion shows, like Fendi's upcoming haute fourrure presentation. The legendary designer spoke about the why activists should no longer get upset about his use of fur, if guys should wear it, experimenting with the material, and how he's become a "cartoon" in an interview with WWD.

PETA targeted Lagerfeld earlier this year, however, he says dissenters don't have much left to shout about. "[Furs are] rarer and rarer," he tells WWD. "That means the activists don’t have to be too angry because there is less and less and it becomes more and more expensive."

If you're a dude thinking about picking up some fur, Lagerfeld has some advice for you. "If you’re Liberace, maybe it’s OK, but I’m not too crazy for fur on men," he says. "As a lining in cold countries, why not? Although they can make you look fat." And we know how the designer feels about that

Although Lagerfeld says he steers clear of unusual furs, like panther and "all the things that were forbidden," he is no stranger to experimenting with the fabric. He recalls "trying 20 different furs together cut into strips and knitted and things like this," he says. "I did that in the Nineties."

When asked about the extremely expensive fur charms modeled after him (see below), Lagerfeld responded like only he could. "I’m a cartoon, my dear I’m easy, everybody can recognize me, and it’s fine. I can’t even cross the street anymore, anywhere, for all the tourists, all the selfies. It’s unbelievable, I don’t know how it happened — it’s so strange, this fame thing."
